Many people hear the word ‘Meditate’ and they think of Buddhist monks in red cloth sitting for hours and hours with their eyes closed. Or maybe a vision of a yogi, crossed legged, sitting still and searching for Nirvana. Let’s alter those images. Yes, meditation can be those things, but it can be lots of other things as well. Meditation is about training your mind to quiet down, learn to focus on the present moment, relax the body, calm the mind, and hopefully, find some inner peace.
Anyone can meditate. And there are many forms of “meditating” besides just trying to sit still for a long period of time. There is movement meditation, like walking, yoga, tai chi, and dance. There is meditation in a sense of Mindfulness- awareness as you eat a piece of food or when washing the dishes. There is meditation that takes one minute of your day, there are some you can spend 30 minutes or an hour doing. There is so much variation, that there is bound to be something that fits for you.
If it seemed intimidating in the past, I’m here to ease that worry. Yes, it takes some practice, but even from the get-go, the benefits of meditation can be felt. You don’t have to be a master yogi to feel the changes meditation can make in your life.
